All about the MyAthens IE toolbar

The MyAthens IE toolbar is a free Internet Explorer add-on designed to assist existing Athens users manage their accounts and navigate between Athens resources.

Installation

1. Click on Download MyAthens IE toolbar.
2. When the file download screen appears, choose 'Open' and follow the onscreen installation instructions.
3. After the installation is complete, please close all Internet Explorer browser windows and re-open them. The MyAthens toolbar should then appear at the top of your browser window.*

* If the MyAthens toolbar does not show up at the top of the browser window, click on 'View' > 'Toolbars' in the Internet Explorer menu, then select the 'Athens toolbar' option.

Troubleshooting

Q: How can I tell if the toolbar has been installed?

A: Click on the Windows 'Start' button and select 'Settings' > 'Control Panel' > 'Add or Remove Programs'. If the "Athens toolbar" is listed as an installed program it has been successfully installed on your system.

Q: I installed MyAthens toolbar, but I don't see it. Why?

A: If you cannot see the toolbar click the "View" menu on your browser, select "Toolbars" and click on the Athens toolbar option.

Occasionally, the MyAthens toolbar may be obscured by other toolbars which you may have visible. In this case, look out for the separator bar next to the MyAthens logo and drag it to the location that you desire. You will generally find the separator bar towards the right hand edge of your screen.

If you are still unable to see the toolbar please ensure you have the 'Enable third-party browser extensions' option checked. Please see the answer to "I upgraded to IE 6.0 and my toolbar disappeared" below for instruction on enabling this.

Q: I am using IE with the 'Manage Add-ons' option enabled and can't see the toolbar. Why?

A: Check that the MyAthens toolbar has been enabled. Select 'Tools' > 'Manage Add-ons' within IE and click 'Athens toolbar'. Select 'Enable' in the 'Settings' frame and click the 'OK' button. You may need to restart IE for the changes to take effect.

Q: I upgraded to IE 6.0 and my toolbar disappeared. Why?

A: Follow these steps to correctly configure Internet Explorer.

1. In IE, click on the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Internet Options ...'
2. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
3. In the 'Browsing' section, make sure 'Enable third-party browser extensions' is selected.
4. Close all IE windows and open a new instance of IE.
5. Reinstall the toolbar.

Q: When I try to install the MyAthens toolbar on Windows 2000, it fails. Why?

A: If you're using Windows 2000, check that you have the Administrative privileges required to install applications. If you are unsure of the status of your system privileges, check with your system administrator.

Un-installing the toolbar

1. Click on the Windows 'Start' button.
2. Click on 'Settings' > 'Control Panel' > 'Add or Remove Programs'.
3. Select 'Athens toolbar' and click the 'Remove' button.
