Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for UK Higher and Further Education will change on August 1^st 2008, when institutions will contract directly with Eduserv for OpenAthens. At this time the contract will be comprised of:

• Service Description
• Terms of Use
• Access and Identity Management Conditions and Software Licence

Until July 31^st 2008, the existing conditions will apply for UK Higher and Further Education as well as for organisations where Athens is funded by a central body, e.g. JISC

Other terms and conditions apply for other organisations as follows:

• Council for organisations who directly contract with ETL for Athens Identity Management services
• for organisations in NHS England

Organisations are also required to meet the Eduserv Athens User & Password Policy Guidelines.

The Terms and Conditions for Athens Account Holders are available online and can be summarised as follows:

• Administrators must take reasonable steps to:

  • Ensure that access to a resource is only given to individuals who are authorised to access that resource under the terms of the licence for the resource
  • Terminate Athens access promptly when appropriate
  • Keep Athens usernames and passwords confidential
  • Ensure that information concerning Athens account holders is accurate
  • Investigate cases of suspected abuse

  
  

• Users must:

  • keep the account confidential and not permit any third party to use it
  • use it for the purpose for which it was issued by the organisation
  • accept the terms of the Eduserv Athens Privacy Policy
