Terms and Conditions

Eduserv's access and identity products and services are provided under contract to organisations directly, and as such administrators and users have obligations regarding their use of both. The terms that apply to these organisations can be found here. However, specific terms also apply for UK Higher and Further Education Institutions and UK NHS.

As part of all such agreements, organisations who use the subscriber solutions to manage their users identities and entitlements to access online electronic resources using OpenAthens and/or Athens must meet the Eduserv Athens User & Password Policy Guidelines.

A brief summary of your obligations as users of the service are that administrators must take reasonable steps to:

• Ensure that access to a resource is only given to individuals who are authorised to access that resource under the terms of the licence for the resource
• Terminate Athens access promptly when appropriate
• Keep Athens usernames and passwords confidential
• Ensure that information concerning Athens account holders is accurate
• Investigate cases of suspected abuse

And users must:

• keep the account confidential and not permit any third party to use it
• use it for the purpose for which it was issued by the organisation
• accept the terms of the Eduserv Athens Privacy Policy
