Eduserv's Access Management solutions are centred on OpenAthens SP, a modular platform that's designed to manage access to internal applications, resources or services that will be accessed by external parties.

OpenAthens SP has been designed for:

• commercial publishers
• anyone wishing to set up single sign-on between internal systems
• different organisations sharing resources as repositories or online workspace

The power of OpenAthens SP lies in its modular architecture. Through a plug-in Athens module, OpenAthens SP provides support for the tried and trusted Athens service, adn the ability to plug in new modules for other standards-based access protocols such as SAML, OpenID and Microsoft CardSpace. Integrating SAML support through OpenAthesn SP will save you around 80% of the time taken for a native Shibboleth implementation.

OpenAthens SP provides a standards-compliant way to:

• request authentication of users from identity providers 
• provide any received identity data for use by the application to determine access
• enable any additional user-centric services or user preferences

To enable users to access applications or resources requires that their identity information is stored and made available either from a service such as OpenAthens MD or from an organisation's internal directory or database, using a product such as OpenAthens LA or many others that support standard protocols such as Shibboleth, OpenID or Information Card (Card Space).
