Shibboleth/SAML to Athens Gateway now available

Eduserv is pleased to announce the availability of the Shibboleth/SAML to Athens Gateway. This is the latest element in the Shibboleth Athens Interoperability programme agreed with the JISC. Today we have also launched the availability of support for multiple federations in the Athens family of agents. The next step will be the Attribute Release Policy for Athens enabled accounts, followed by the Athens to Shibboleth gateway later this year.

The Shibboleth/SAML to Athens Gateway enables organisations to use Shibboleth Identity Provider protocols to access Athens protected resources. Organisations may also elect to use their Novell iChain installations in SAML mode.

This development also includes the ability to register a Local Authentication system securely, within the Athens Administration Interface. Options are provided to choose either Shibboleth, SAML or AthensDA as a connection protocol. For more information, see /local_auth/

Connection of a Local Authentication system to Athens also requires the following:

  1. agreement to the Athens Terms and Conditions
  2. completion of a username password audit
  3. sign off by Athens to the Local Authentication Implementation Standards
