How do I become an Athens organisation?

We can set up a free three month trial account for Athens for your organisation if you wish to test the facilities we offer. Alternatively, if you want to register as an Athens administrator please complete and return the registration form and send/fax it to:

This will enable us to open an administration account on the Athens database for you and we can give you access to at least one freely available resource that does not require a licence to allow you to try out the system, create accounts, access a resource (database authenticated by Athens), etc. to give you a better idea of how Athens works. We are also quite happy to provide training over the telephone to show you how to use the system and advice on how to structure your organisation.

A complete list of Athens organisations is available online is updated regularly. Please check that your organisation is not already registered before applying.

The Athens protected resources are available to various sectors (Higher Education, Further Education, Research Councils, NHS) depending on licensing conditions.

Please also remember, that being an Athens organisation will not automatically entitle your organisation to access resources, these need to be subscribed to individually. The Athens system simply provides access management for these datasets.
